Description
Summary:Carboplatin is a useful agent for the treatment of ovarian carcinoma. Anaphylactic reaction to carboplatin is rare, but it is an important adverse effect, as it is potentially life-threatening. We report a 48-year-old Japanese woman with stage IIIc (FIGO) serous cyst adenocarcinoma of the ovary who had an anaphylactic reaction after a total of ten courses of carboplatin chemotherapy. Premedication with steroid failed to prevent the anaphylactic reaction. She required resuscitation with oxygen, and treatment with intravenous fluid, hydrocortisone, and antihistamines. Because hypersensitivity reactions to carboplatin appear to become more frequent with repeated use, it is important to always be aware of possible anaphylactic shock in patients with persistent or relapsed ovarian cancer during the prolonged use of carboplatin.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
