Summary: | In narratives about personal displacement, history is located in an eccentric and antagonistic situation as it relates to its cultural and social imperatives, as well as to the relationships between text and context. Joaquin Colon Lopez exposes his individual experience in relationship to history, and breathes contextuality into the sociohistorical imperatives of the Puerto Rican community in New York during the first half of the 20th century. Inside the transnational space, the author articulates the concepts of identity and raises a relatively independent and organic awareness. The resemantization of the ethnic tribalism as a source of collective unity and belonging allows the author to challenge hegemonic discourses on imperialism and colonialism. |
