Description
Summary:Surgical site infections (SSI's) remain the second leading cause of healthcare associated infections (HAI's). From 2008-2011, SSI's among patients undergoing spinal fusions increased in neurosurgical (NS) and orthopedic (ORT)services. In 2011, the ORT service standardized their post-operative dressing change procedure with a resultant decrease in SSI's in 2012; however the NS SSI rates continued to increase (Figure 1). A multi-disciplinary task force was created to address the Issue of SSI's in NS patients.
