Summary: | Surgical site infections (SSI) are a preventable complication in caesarian section (C-section) patients. Concerns were raised that dressings removed on post-operative day (POD) #1 could be very done shortly after surgery, unnecessarily risking contamination of the wound. A survey of other surgical services revealed that many were removing the dressing on POD#2. This practice change was instituted in September 2012, and SSI Rates were compared for 20 months before and 12 months after. |
