Summary: | This article describes the resettlement process of the population affected by the Itaparica hydroelectric plant, considering the attitude of the company which is responsible for the works and the position of the population. The author also analyses some implications of the Itaparica project in relation to the electric sector and the environment. The social character of the enterprises in the electric sector and the concepts of public concern and citizenship are considered account as premises. The contradictions inherent to environmental problems are emphasized and the way to negotiate and to solve the conflicts is indicated as a duty of the specialists who deal with the environmental impact of the works in the electric sector. |
