This study interprets and evaluates written records compiled by Osman Fikret Topalli. Topalli's notes give information about early 20th century folk music, representing folk culture of Giresun people. Giresun is a northeastern city of Anatolia that has been settled by the Çepni Turks from the 12th century on. The bulk of Topalli's records consist of direct interviews with concerning persons; and the rest rely on witness accounts and experiences. This compilation is a valuable, unique and interesting source of information about baglama and saz artists and other instrument players in Giresun and its vicinity. Thus, analysis of these records would certainly be a valuable addition to the concerning literature.
