Summary:A low budget radon monitor has been developed using silicon PIN diode. Sensitivity factor of this monitor is observed to be relatively high over the other similar monitors. This is achieved by incorporation of a hemispherical mesh in the sampling chamber, thereby accelerating the electro-deposition of charged polonium atoms on the detector surface. Its performance has been tested successfully against reference equipment.
