Summary:This paper presents the conclusions of four case studies in technologic-based (TB) organizations. These companies have a strong international projection and are considered good examples of Portuguese innovative companies. They also represent stories of Portuguese innovation, stepping through it from the 80s to the 2000s. Following a qualitative approach, critical success factors that make them a reference in the innovation field are pinpointed. These cases are assumed as organizational narratives that sustain innovation social processes. Given this framework, the research question was: What are the key factors driving innovation processes in successful Portuguese technology-based organizations? The narratives of innovation lessons play an instrumental role into the comprehension of the social interaction complexities. These four management practices as a real world innovation lessons underline the significance of its actors and the focus on applied knowledge. A passion for knowledge and its productive application was the differentiating factor, contributing to their innovative success.
