Description
Summary:This paper reflects on the concept of psychological contract in the Indian academic sector. The work done by various researchers demonstrated the impact of psychological contract on workplace relations, employee effectiveness and performance. Not much work has been done to explore the concept in the Indian academic sector. This paper tries to fill this research gap by addressing the content of psychological contract in Indian higher education sector. The higher education sector in India is emphasizing on achieving excellence through high quality inputs and high quality outcomes. This requires transformation across the levers of higher education and a committed effort from the teaching staff, they being one of the key stakeholders. We argue that understanding the mutual expectations of the teaching staff and the employer to build a positive psychological contract is crucial to the institutions' ability to manage the commitment and work performance of the faculty.
