Summary: | This research note addresses the question of the effects of hate speech prosecution of politicians on citizens' satisfaction with democratic performance. As many citizens seem to fiercely oppose hate speech prosecution of politicians, this raises the question of the effects of such prosecution on citizens' support for the norms and procedures of the democratic regime in their country. This article expects that awareness of such prosecution increases satisfaction with democratic performance among those who believe in the multiculturalist ideal, while sparking off dissatisfaction among those who adhere to the ideal of cultural unity. |
