Description
Summary:Johann Gottfried Herder wrote linguistic, literary, historical and philosophical treatises. He belonged to the Enlightenment movement and had a great influence on the development of German literature, culture and art. With his work Thoughts on the Philosophy of the History of Humanity, he had a strong influence on the literary movement of "Vihamism", on the young Goethe and Romanticism. One of his main works is a collection of folk songs of various nationalities entitled Glasovi narodov vpesmih. Today, Herder is known as the father of the German term Volkslied (folk song), although it existed earlier. According to Rousseau, the term meant the "virtue of natural genius." For Herder, the true cultural tradition was one in which authentic folk culture, human emotions and also historical events resonate. His initiative to systematically collect folk songs is invaluable. Among other things, Herder was aware that there is no folk song without a tune, or that music also belongs to poetry. Unfortunately, at the beginning of this movement, some collectors only wrote down texts, as is also known among Slovenians.
