Visualization of the spatial distribution of Pt^sup +^ ions in cisplatin-treated glioblastoma cells by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry

Human glioblastoma cells (line U87MG) treated by cisplatin were studied using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). A spatial distribution of Pt^sup +^ and Na^sup +^ ions and lipids in a cell was determined. The concentration of Pt^sup +^ ions inside the cell nuclei was shown to...

Description
Summary:Human glioblastoma cells (line U87MG) treated by cisplatin were studied using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). A spatial distribution of Pt^sup +^ and Na^sup +^ ions and lipids in a cell was determined. The concentration of Pt^sup +^ ions inside the cell nuclei was shown to be 1.5 times greater than in the cytoplasm. Sphingosine, which is involved in the apoptotic process, was found in cells treated by cisplatin. In control untreated cells, the formation of sphingosine was not detected.
