Description
Summary:This study examined Graduate Teaching Assistants' (GTAs) use of e-Learning tools in support of instruction for undergraduate courses, including awareness of available e-Learning tools; sources of training/development for teaching online and integration of e - Learning tools; using e-Learning tools for collaboration/online interactions, assessment, providing feedback, communication, and delivering instruction/facilitation. The study was conducted at a southeastern research university. GTAs were sent an online survey of 37 items concerning tools in eLearning including Live Classroom, Web Links, Turnitin, Discussion Board, Mail, Chat, multimedia, Assignments and Assessments. One hundred thirty-one GTAs participated in the study. Findings indicated that most participants were unfamiliar with or did not use many of the available tools. Many participants would like more training in how to use e-Learning and the advantages and disadvantages of using particular tools. The study indicates universities need to provide more support and development for GTAs' use of e-Learning tools for online teaching success.
