Description
Summary:Describes the role of the international organizations, ICAO, IATA, ECAC and ACI, in enhancing civil aviation security. Offers a brief explanation of their different roles and shows how they link to provide a worldwide security structure for the benefit of the air traveller. Considers their strengths and weaknesses, and discusses their different approaches to aviation security implementation. Reviews the commercial organizations' mandate to provide safe, regular and economical air transport, and gives a practical example of security enhancement. Uses the sterile lounge concept, experienced by all air travellers using British airports, to demonstrate the link between facilitation and security. (Original abstract)
