Summary:By using new information technology (internet, text messages on cell phones, etc), these programmes can reach large numbers of smokers at a low cost. Because the prevalence of smoking among pregnant women has increased sharply in many European countries in recent years, and few doctors and midwives are trained in treating tobacco dependence, there is an urgent need to assess the efficacy of computer tailored smoking cessation programmes in pregnant smokers.
