Summary:Collerton et al determine the health status among 85 year olds. Results show that despite significant levels of disease and impairment, 85 year olds have good functional ability and self rated health. People aged 85 and older (oldest old) are the fastest growing group in many countries but their health and factors influencing their health trajectories need better description. Among 85 year olds levels of self rated health and functional ability were good, despite substantial levels of disease and impairment.
