Summary: | Considering the examples illustrating the fact that both user innovation and open innovation compete and substitute innovation undertaken by producers, the importance of user integration into innovation process becomes obvious. Throughout this process, along with traditional methods, firms also benefit from web based user innovation tools. Regarding the gap of number of researches on web based user innovation tools in our country, and the importance of the topic for the development of innovation studies, in this study, a detailed literature review was conducted. Besides, the extent of the usage of web based user innovation tools in integration of users into innovation process of firms within Fortune Top 500 list of Turkey was aimed to be identified. The findings of the study showed that companies make use of users mostly in the idea generation phase of the new product development process, and online complaint areas, market intelligence services, and suggestion boxes were found to be the mostly utilized web based innovation tools. Findings also revealed that the usage of complaint areas and toolkits differ according to different sectors. This study is expected to increase the awareness towards web based user innovation tools in our country. |
