Description
Summary:Off-line process control improves the efficiency of the manufacturing process through the manipulation of process variables. The present study uses a combination of Taguchi orthogonal array and analysis of variance to experimentally investigate the effect of cutting parameters on profile roughness parameters, tool flank wear and power consumption during hard and dry turning of AISI M2 steel with cubic boron nitrite cutting insert. The results reveal that the surface roughness and flank wear are significantly affected by speed and feed. The power consumption of the machine is substantially affected by the feed and the depth of cut. Thereafter, optimum values of performance characteristics are predicted.
