Summary:Population aging is the most important demographic change currently observed in the world. Among the most important diseases of the elderly Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) are the most prevalent and cause further complications. Are considered a major public health problems and their treatment constitutes, and the use of drugs, the adoption of healthy habits, such as restricted use of alcohol, engaging in physical exercise, abstinence from smoking and eating plan appropriate. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the adherence of elderly enrolled in the program HiperDia antihypertensive treatment through the application forms and the use of Morisky and Green Test. It is an evaluation research with a quantitative approach, carried out in Basic Health Units (BHU) in the city of Caxias - MA, identifying 356 elderly enrolled in HiperDia. It was found that 51.1% of patients had uncontrolled blood pressure, 76.9% reported having other illnesses associated with systemic hypertension and 67.3% of patients are non-adherent to treatment. The data collected showed the importance of implementation of health care models that incorporate several strategies, individual and collective, in order to improve the quality of care and adherence to treatment.
