Summary: | [...]the motivation of British Governments, as Cohen clearly states throughout the book, was not altruistic, but rather a calculation of British interests in the post-Ottoman Middle East, stretching from the shores of the Eastern Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf. There is also an out- of- context reference, when referring specifically to the chaos of 1947, to the total number of Palestine Policemen killed during the whole mandate period, [p.479] This reference may be misleading to the reader, who is also not informed how many of the 550 deaths were due to Jewish or Arab terrorism, nor when exactly they occurred? [...]his treatment of anti-Semitism in Britain raises some uncertainties and conceptual difficulties. |
