Summary: | Adenovirus infections are common causes of pediatric gastroenteritis and hospital transmission has been documented. Adenoviruses are hardy in the environment and can survive on surfaces for extended periods. Over two weeks, three patients on the 24-bed pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant ward were identified with adenovirus gastroenteritis by the infection preventionist. Hospital epidemiology investigated and instituted control measures for enteric adenovirus. |
