Summary: | Swedish film historian Rune Waldenkranz (1911-2003) is profiled. His monumental 2,601-page, three-volume film history from the beginnings to 1990 makes him one of the most important first-generation historians. In 1964, he became founding director of Sweden's first film school, part of the Swedish Film Institute, and was appointed the first full professor of film studies at Stockholm University in 1970. He played a central role in establishing the new academic subject of cinema studies. |
