Summary: | The researches on using the mental models in education have become prevalent today. That the teachers know the mental models of the students about the terms which are used in the curriculum will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of instruction. The thoughts of the students about the science of which significance increased especially in our age should be scrutinized. The goal of the research which has been implemented in accordance with this belief is to study the mental models of the students about the scientific value in terms of some variants like gender, social studies lesson grades, education background of the parents and income level. The research was implemented to 311 secondary school students in 20142015 educational year by means of one group pre-test-post-test model which is one of the weak experimental quantitative models. The data collected from the students to determine the mental models by requiring them to form metaphors about scientific value and draw their metaphors has been analyzed in Chi-square test in the SPSS program. As a result of this study, no difference has been pointed out about the mental models of the students according to their gender, a significance difference has been found out in their social studies lesson grades. While a significant difference has been found out in the mental models according to education background of the parents and income level in the pre-test, no significant difference has been found out in between these variants in the post-test. |
