Description
Summary:The JHT has made substantial changes to the author instructions to try and help authors write case studies that will be meaningful to readers, and to make the process of how to write a case study clearer. A case study adds to our knowledge or clinical decision-making when it does one of more of the following: points out rare conditions, complications or outcomes presents a case where a unique presentation, comorbidity or adverse event complicates the management to illustrate unique or complex clinical decision making introduces novel treatments (innovations) or describes modifications made to a treatment to address a specific clinical concern presents a unique challenge in implementation eg, ethical, system or personal factors that require customization to illustrate application to patients in a way that is not described by randomized controlled trials (RCTs) illustrates complex diagnostic decision-making with conflicting or complex information A case report or case study is the ideal study design for rare occurrences that will never be feasibly studied in clinical trials.
