Hyperactive frontocingulate system during conflict resolution in obsessive-compulsive disorder: a study with fMRI and dynamic causal modeling

An overactive monitoring system in OCD, neuroanatomically consisting of dACC and lateral prefrontal areas may provide an explanatory framework for the subjective feeling of committing an error despite reacting correctly and for the often observed slowed cognitive performance. [...]the present study...

Description
Summary:An overactive monitoring system in OCD, neuroanatomically consisting of dACC and lateral prefrontal areas may provide an explanatory framework for the subjective feeling of committing an error despite reacting correctly and for the often observed slowed cognitive performance. [...]the present study aims to investigate alterations in functional activation pattern in OCD patients during conflict resolution with the Stroop-Color-Word-Test (SCWT) and effective connectivity within the frontocingulate network with dynamic causal modeling (Schlosser et al., 2008; Wagner et al., 2006). Methods 21 inpatients (age in y: M=31.3, SD=10.25; 5 males) meeting DSM-IV criteria for obsessive-compulsive disorder and 21 healthy controls (age in y: M=28.9, SD=8.3; 5 males) matched for age, gender and education were included in this study.
