Domingo Marcos Durán es un teórico musical del Renacimiento español. Nace en Garrovillas o Alconetar, en la Provincia de Cáceres. Inicia su formación en la Catedral de Coria como seise y después estudia Artes Liberales y Música en Salamanca, decantándose finalmente por el estudio de la Música, centrándose en aspectos pedagógicos. Escribe tres tratados: Lux Bella (1492), Comento sobre Lux Bella (1498) y Súmula de Canto de órgano, contrapunto y composición (ca.1502-07). Su primer libro es el primero impreso en castellano, el segundo es un comentario y ampliación del primero, y el último es el primer libro de polifonía impreso en castellano. Unos y otros fueron los primeros en su género hechos en imprentas españolas. Domingo Marcos Durán is a music theorist of the Spanish Renaissance. He was born either in Garrovillas or in Alconetar, in the province of Cáceres. He started his studies in the Cathedral of Coria and then he followed courses on Liberal Arts and Music in Salamanca. Music, and especially its didactic aspects, became his main field of concern. He wrote three tratises: Lux Bella (1492), Comento sobe Lux Bella (1498) and Súmula de canto de órgano, contrapunto y composición (ca. 1502-07). The first work is the earliest of its kind to be printed in Castilian, the second is a commentary and an extension of the former, and the last one is the earliest treatise on poliphony printed in Castilian. All of them were the first in their categories to be published in Spanish printing houses.
