Description
Summary:The origin of the nuclear envelope is a milestone in the eukaryotic evolution. The nuclear envelope separates the nucleus from cytoplasm and provides selective traffic between them. It is the most prominent structure in modern eukaryotes, which has no analogues in prokaryotes. Here, we overview different theories of eukaryogenesis and contemplate the data concerning possible ways of the formation of the nuclear envelope and nuclear pore complex.
