Summary: | Pipelines and metal structures in NPP are joined together by means of welding. Welding has signicant advantages, such as saving of metal due to more complete use, reduction of structural mass, and creation of hermetic joints. The operational characteristics of a weld joint are lower than that of the base metal, so that the structural integrity depends on the condition of the weld seam. The degradation of weld joints is due to rapid crystallization of the metal in a weld joint owing to rapid cooling compared with a metal ingot, so that adverse thermal strain and physicochemical and metallurgical processes that affect the joints mechanical properties can occur. A weld joint must undergo treatment in order for its performance to improve. Several methods are available for treat weld seams: thermal tempering and vibrational and deformational methods. |
