Description
Summary:Adhesive bonding is a suitable joining technique for composite materials. The thick adherents shear’ tests (TASTs) are common joint-specimen tests performed to determine the adhesive shear properties. This paper presents the results of numerical modelling of several TAST specimen configurations. The numerical models were conceived considering the adherents made of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strips and bonded with an epoxy type adhesive. The adhesive layer thickness has varied as 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm, while the overlap length has been increased from 50 mm to 70 mm and 100 mm, respectively. Unidirectional tensile load of 500 N, 1000 N and 2000 N are applied and the stress-strain distributions are investigated. The results are presented in terms of total deformation, equivalent stress (von-Mises) and equivalent strain (von-Mises).
