Summary:The measured thresholds ( H cr ) and kinetic characteristics of the ignition of the volatile substances and the coke residue of low-rank coal under the action of the pulses of a neodymium laser (1064 nm, 120 μs) are reported here. The ignition of volatile substances was observed in microsecond ( H cr = 0.3 J/cm 2 ) and millisecond time intervals ( H cr = 1.2 J/cm 2 ). The combustion of the coke residue occurred in a time interval of 30–100 ms ( H cr = 2.6 J/cm 2 ).
