Summary:The present reaction provides a simple and convenient synthetic strategy to construct [beta]-iodovinyl sulfones through molecular iodine and DTBP (di-tert-butyl peroxide) promoted difunctionalization of alkynes with sodium benzenesulfinates under mild and environmentally-benign conditions. A series of substituted (E)-[beta]-iodovinyl sulfones were synthesized with excellent stereo- and regio-selectivities.
