Summary: | The purpose of this study was to examine elementary school teacher candidates' problematic internet usages in terms of sex, education level, daily time spending, conscious and controlled usage variables. The study was conducted in 2015-2016 academic year at Abant Izzet Baysal University with the 294 elementary school teacher candidates. The participants consisted of 73 male (%24.8) and 221 female (%75.2) students. For instrumentation, Internet Addiction Scale (Çahin and Korkmaz, 2011) and personal information forms were used. The data were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 package program. Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney-U, nonparametrical tests were done for data analysis. The results revealed that elementary school candidates are using internet at least one hour daily and as the time of utilization increased, the problematic internet usage also increased. Those who used internet consciously and controlled manner and those reported that they do not need education about internet utilization reported less problematic internet usage than the others. While sex did not contribute any difference for problematic internet usage class did. Lower classes were demonstrated more problematic behavior than those upper classes. Furthermore, the findings of this research was discussed in light of current literature and research. |
