Summary: | A novel planar dual‐band balun with high isolation and flexible implementation is proposed in this letter. Based on the design of a single‐band branch‐line balun, the ideal all‐port matching and output isolation are fulfilled. To achieve the dual‐band operation, innovative structures consisting of three‐section Pi‐shaped coupled lines in place of conventional branch lines with arbitrary impedances and phases are exploited. Moreover, expedient implementations can be regulated according to practical requirements while maintaining identical performance. Analytical closed‐form equations are obtained by even‐odd mode method and ABCD matrix. Analyses concerning the available frequency ratio are provided as well. For verification, a prototype working at 1.74 and 4.91 GHz is designed and fabricated. Both the simulation and measurement exhibit excellent properties and agree well with each other. |
