Gastrointestinal symptoms in diabetic patients - diabetic exocrine pancreatopathy or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth?

Serum lipase (L) and fecal elastase 1 activity (FEC) (using sensitive immunoenzymatic assay), and presence of SIBO by lactulose hydrogen breath test, were determined in both groups. According to our study, abdominal symptoms in DM patients are more often related to SIBO.
