Summary: | An abstract of a study by Murray et al determining activity of gluteus maximus (GMax) and gluteus medius (GMed) using ultrasound imaging (USI) and EMG simultaneously during nine hip exercises is presented. Healthy participants activated their GMax and GMed at different levels during these exercises as measured by both USI and EMG methods of measure with very large effect sizes in many cases. Both tools show clinical usefulness in quantifying gluteal muscle activity, while the lack of correlation between USI and EMG measures demonstrates they are each providing the clinician with unique information. |
