Comparative study of free oxidation and ATP synthesis in mitochondria in the liver of different animal species

Oxidative phosphorylation, which is the synthesis of ATP associated with oxygen consumption, is but one important function of mitochondria. No less significant is free oxidation (or respiration), i.e. oxygen consumption by mitochondria in the absence of ATP synthesis [1]. There are two specific stat...

Description
Summary:Oxidative phosphorylation, which is the synthesis of ATP associated with oxygen consumption, is but one important function of mitochondria. No less significant is free oxidation (or respiration), i.e. oxygen consumption by mitochondria in the absence of ATP synthesis [1]. There are two specific states, 3 and 4, distinguished for isolated mitochondria.
