Summary: | Following on from Rough for Theatre and Act Without Words II as part of the 'Beckett in the City' initiative the production of Fizzles for the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival captures the 'fizzling' out of life as a struggle 'with the fear and loathing between private and public self'. [...]one space leaked into the other as one self-performed against the other, the alive and the projected.' SJ company's productions are characterised by their willingness to engage with contemporary ethical issues while keeping the vision of Samuel Beckett as writer and director as central focus: 'Putting Act Without Words II on the street was placing the sculpture of the addicted body (specifically Raymond Keane) within the social and architectural spaces of the city enabling them to re-act with each other. Sarah Jane Scaife's knowledge of movement, which began as she studied in New York in dance, Butoh and Polish mime, and her exceptional eye for the design of space are all evident. |
