Description
Summary:Rational: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with airway remodeling that involves all tissues of the airway wall, including the epithelium, mesenchymal cells and extracellular matrix (ECM), which together form the epithelial-mesenchymal trophic unit (EMTU). SHG-NLOM analysis revealed that IL-1a and IL-1ß but not IL-33 inhibited the ability of PAFs to remodel gelatin into fibrillar collagen I. mRNA expression of GLI1, a known regulator of collagen synthesis, and of lysyl oxidase, a collagen cross-linking enzyme, were found to be down-regulated with IL-1 treatment in fibroblasts.
