Description
Summary:Mato Grosso soybean producers efficiency has not been enough to warrant competitiveness in the foreign market. In order to warrant such efficiency it is necessary to have a sufficient infrastructure of transportation available, as to allow input at reasonable freight costs and, mainly, to allow produced grain being transported without loosing competitive advantage over foreign competitor markets for that commodity. The objective of this research was to verify a possible cost reduction by using alternate routes to ship soybeans produced in Mato Grosso State, seeking foreign markets. In order to have this research done average freight costs have been raised at the three main modal transportation services (roads, railroad and waterway transportation) and distances among producing regions, inter-modal terminals and the Brazilian ports. It has been concluded that US$ 67.75 per tone of exported soybeans would be saved by improving infrastructure of such transportation means.
