From Lectio to Lyric: Thomas Merton's Early Poetry on Biblical Narratives
Thomas Merton not only taught about lectio divina (spiritual reading), but practiced it and it became a stimulus for much of his own writing, in meditative works as well as his own poetry. His first foray into this sort of poem predate his arrival at the Abbey of Gethsemani by almost two years.
