Description
Summary:This study aims to analyze the influence of plasma and conventional sintering process in aluminum compacted samples. The plasma atmospheres treatment were hydrogen and nitrogen, and for the conventional process, nitrogen. Parameters such as sintering temperature (500°C) and time (60min) were the same for both processes. The nitrogen atmosphere was the optimal for sintering, as verified by other researchers, resulting in samples with 93% densification next and hardness between 40 and 43 HV(0.05). However, the formation of aluminum nitrides was not confirmed in this study, despite the apparent improvement in mechanical properties of the samples as hardness. With the results of this study, it can be seen the similarity between the values of densification and hardness with 500gf load, suggesting a similar mechanical behavior between the sintered samples and plasma conventionally with nitrogen atmosphere. For precise assessment will be necessary to carry out new experiments with different process parameters, e.g., time and sintering temperature, the lubricant change to aid in compression, and addition of alloying elements.
