Summary:Access to the individual investor is now viewed by many organizations as a key to successful capital management. With an average stock holding period of 7.5 years, individuals bring a needed element of stability to the corporation. It is clear that they are an important part of today's investor mix for many firms - but not without cost. Along with the advantages of stability and brand loyalty comes the potentially high cost of communicating with each individual. In addition, the day trader is as volatile as any institutional investor. Creating a successful mix, then, requires an investor strategy as well as careful planning.
