description Public pension systems have undergone radical economic, social as well as demographic changes during the last decades. Amongst these demographic changes we should point out the process of population aging. This paper analyses the impact of demographic aging on the public pension system in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. More precisely, this paper attempts to determine the extent of future demographic aging in that region through a prospective analysis of the evolution of its population and, in order to determine the impact such demographic change has on the public retirement pension system, to estimate the evolution of public pension expenditure. The results of the analysis undertaken in this paper have been obtained based on reasonable hypotheses about the demographic, economic and labour evolution in the region for the period 2000-2025.
