Summary:The papers in this special issue focus on the deployment modeling and simulation in remote sensing applications which play important roles in the development and application of remote sensing technology. While modeling occurs in many aspects of remote sensing including in the representation of natural phenomena and in the development and use of data analysis algorithms, a particular role of models is in the creation of the signatures and signals that lead to the remotely sensed measurements from which we can extract information about the scene.
