Summary: | This template is based on the principle of communicative competence and content-based instructional design techniques. It seeks to respond to the instructional design concerns coming out of a growing demand for foreign language courses that either focus on specific contexts (business, law, and health) or on less commonly taught languages. Although course instructors will find that the course design process may require the supplementary expertise of editors, filmmakers, graphic designers, and others, this template is designed primarily for the language instructor. This template will benefit both seasoned and newer language instructors and instructors with little as well as extensive background knowledge of the content area. This template provides special purpose language and less commonly taught language course designers with the theoretical rationale behind "learning language by using language." It also walks course designers through the project initiation phase, the scope and sequence development phase, and the lesson plan development phase and provides a sample scope and sequence and lesson plan. This template ends with a short discussion of resources to be used in developing supporting media. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
