Description
Summary:In this essay, we provide a conceptual framework for thinking about urban design and its impact on undocumented immigrants. We begin with a brief overview of changes to the immigration system that have led to legal status becoming increasingly important to immigrant integration and discuss three reasons why urban planners and designers should pay attention to this population. We then provide three examples of specific barriers this population faces and review the ways urban design plays a role in either mitigating or exacerbating barriers.
