Summary: | In this paper we analyze the economic-financial reality of the six Spanish cities of more than 500,000 inhabitants -Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Sevilla, Valencia and Zaragozaduring the 2006-2015 period, with a double objective: on the one hand, to put in evidence the differential behavior with respect to urban municipalities with a population of 100 and 500,000 inhabitants who, although with a smaller size, have the same level of competence and financing system and, on the other, to assess the incidence that the economic crisis may have had on the finances of these municipalities. Closely linked to the implications of the economic crisis, it arises from exercise 2013 the obligation to comply with the principles of budgetary stability, financial sustainability and the rule of expenditure, which are having consequences in the recent evolution of the hacienda of these entities, which we also consider appropriate to assess in the perspective of the period analyzed. |
