Summary: | This paper explores the juxtaposition of Olympian archetypes alongside project management processes that were endemic to the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens. Through a method of creative imagining, I discuss the project nature of the Olympics with its multiple activities and resources, uniqueness, and time demands. In turn, I also inquire into eight ancient Olympians - Demeter, Artemis, Athena, Hestia, Hades, Apollo, Hephaestus, and Hermes - from the viewpoint of their qualities and proclivities for project work. Lastly, both perspectives are integrated in order to further our collective understanding of contemporary project management and its possibility as a frame-of-reference for OD practitioners.
