Muscle channelopathy-associated muscle dysfunction occurs early during intra-abdominal experimental sepsis in both peripheral and diaphragm muscle

The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the expression of connexins hemichannels (Cx) in muscle sarcolemma, which are channels that communicate the intra- with extracellular space because they are permeable to ions and small molecules (eg, ATP); occurs during the first hours of sepsis, ea...

Description
Summary:The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the expression of connexins hemichannels (Cx) in muscle sarcolemma, which are channels that communicate the intra- with extracellular space because they are permeable to ions and small molecules (eg, ATP); occurs during the first hours of sepsis, earlier than mitochondrial dysfunction; and are associated with muscle dysfunction.Muscle atrophy by cross-sectional area (CSA); Expression of atrogin-1 and Murf (ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation) and Cx by IF; Ethidium uptake and membrane potential (microelectrode) for membrane integrity; and mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate (OCR).
