Summary:The modes of payment for hospital services vary in government and private hospitals. Cash is the major mode of payment in government institutions whereas cash and card are the major mode in private hospitals. Government of India's decision on 8th November, 2016 about demonetization has brought a huge wave of change in the usage of electronic transfer of money all over the country. Though Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow. India was providing swipe facilities, the utilisation of these facilities in the hospital was very less. The decision of demonetization also affected the payment mode at SGPGIMS. This study based on questionnaire survey, is intended to assess the impact of demonetization on utilization of card swipe facilities by patients, their awareness and attitude towards digital transactions and to get feedback on impact of demonetization.
